Upagupta ಪದ್ಯದ ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಾರಾಂಶ
Upagupta ಕವಿತೆಯನ್ನು ರವೀಂದ್ರನಾಥ ಟ್ಯಾಗೋರ್ ಬರೆದಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಈ ಕವಿತೆಯು ಬೌದ್ಧ ಸನ್ಯಾಸಿ ಉಪಗುಪ್ತನ ಕಥೆಯನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದೆ. ಉಪಗುಪ್ತನು ಭಗವಾನ್ ಬುದ್ಧನ ಶಿಷ್ಯ. ವಾಸವದತ್ತಾ ಮಥುರಾದ ನೃತ್ಯದ ಹುಡುಗಿ.
ಉಪಗುಪ್ತ ಧೂಳಿನ ನೆಲದ ಮೇಲೆ ಮಲಗಿದ್ದ. ಅವನು ಒಂದು ಸ್ಥಳದಿಂದ ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ಸ್ಥಳಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಒಮ್ಮೆ ಅವನು ಮಥುರಾ ಎಂಬ ಸಣ್ಣ ಪಟ್ಟಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಲಗಿದ್ದಾಗ, ನೃತ್ಯ ಮಾಡುವ ಹುಡುಗಿ ವಾಸವದತ್ತ ಅವನ ದೇಹದ ಮೇಲೆ ಎಡವಿ ಬೀಳುತ್ತಾಳೆ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಅವನು ಇದ್ದಕ್ಕಿದ್ದಂತೆ ಎಚ್ಚರಗೊಂಡನು.
ವಾಸವದತ್ತಳು ಕ್ಷಮಿಸಿ ಈ ಧೂಳಿನ ಸ್ಥಳವು ತಮಗೆ ಸೂಕ್ತವಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದಳು. ಅವಳು ಅವನನ್ನು ತನ್ನ ಮನೆಗೆ ಆಹ್ವಾನಿಸಿದಳು. ಆದರೆ ಉಪಗುಪ್ತ ನಿರಾಕರಿಸಿದ. ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಅವನು ತಪಸ್ವಿ ಜೀವನ ನಡೆಸಲು ಬಯಸಿದ್ದನು. ಸಮಯ ಬಂದಾಗ ನಾನು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಮನೆಗೆ ಬರುತ್ತೇನೆ ಎಂದು ಅವನು ಹೇಳಿದನು.
ವರ್ಷದ ನಂತರ ಉಪಗುಪ್ತ ಮತ್ತೆ ಆ ಪಟ್ಟಣಕ್ಕೆ ಭೇಟಿ ನೀಡಿದ. ಆ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವನು ಪಟ್ಟಣದ ಹೊರಗೆ ನೆಲದ ಮೇಲೆ ಮಲಗಿದ್ದ ನೃತ್ಯದ ಹುಡುಗಿಯನ್ನು ನೋಡಿದನು. ವಾಸವದತ್ತ ಸಿಡುಬು ರೋಗದಿಂದ ಬಳಲುತ್ತಿದ್ದಳು. ಆಕೆಯನ್ನು ಪಟ್ಟಣದಿಂದ ದೂರ ಓಡಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಅವನು ಅವಳಿಗೆ ನೀರು ಕೊಡುತ್ತಾನೆ ಮತ್ತು ಅವಳ ದೇಹದ ಮೇಲೆ ಶ್ರೀಗಂಧದ ಮುಲಾಮು ಹಚ್ಚಿದನು.
ವಾಸವದತ್ತ ನೀನು ಯಾರು ಎಂದು ಕೇಳುತ್ತಾಳೆ. “ಈಗ ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ಭೇಟಿ ಮಾಡುವ ಸಮಯ ಬಂದಿದೆ ಮತ್ತು ನಾನು ಇಲ್ಲಿದ್ದೇನೆ” ಎಂದು ಉಪಗುಪ್ತ ಉತ್ತರಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಹೀಗಾಗಿ ಉಪಗುಪ್ತನು ಅವಳಿಗೆ ನಿರ್ಣಾಯಕ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡಿದನು.
Upagupta (English Summary)
Upagupta poem is written by Rabindranatha Tagore. This poem is about the story of a Buddhist monk Upagupta. Upagupta is the disciple of Lord Buddha. Vasavadatta is the dancing girl of Mathura.
Upagupta was sleeping on the dusty ground. He goes from one place to another. Once while he was sleeping in a small town called Mathura, a dancing girl Vasavadatta stumbles over his body. So he suddenly woke up.
Vasavadatta asked sorry and told him that this dusty place is not suitable for him. She invites him to her house. But Upagupta refused. Because he wanted to lead a life of ascetic. He told that I will come to your house when time is ripe.
Year later Upagupta visited that town again. That time he saw dancing girl lying on the ground outside the town. Vasavadatta was suffering from small pox. She is driven away from the town. He gives her water and applied sandal balm on her body.
Vasavadatta asks who he is. Upagupta replies “Now the time has come to visit you and I am here.” Thus he helped her in a critical situation.
