‘ರಂಜಿಯ ವಂಡರ್ ಫುಲ್ ಬ್ಯಾಟ್’ ರಸ್ಕಿನ್ ಬಾಂಡ್ ಬರೆದ ಸಣ್ಣ ಕಥೆ. ರಂಜಿಗೆ ಹನ್ನೊಂದು ವರ್ಷ, ಶಾಲಾ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿ. ಎರಡು ತಂಡಗಳ ನಡುವೆ ಕ್ರಿಕೆಟ್ ಪಂದ್ಯ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಸೂರಜ್ ಅವರ ತಂಡದ ನಾಯಕನಾಗಿದ್ದನು. ಅವರ ತಂಡವು ನಾಲ್ಕು ವಿಕೆಟ್‌ಗೆ ಐವತ್ತಮೂರು ರನ್ ಗಳಿಸಿತು. ಅವರ ತಂಡದ ಗೆಲುವಿಗೆ ಇನ್ನೂ 60 ರನ್‌ಗಳ ಅಗತ್ಯವಿತ್ತು. ಶಾಲಾ ತಂಡದ ನಾಯಕ ಸೂರಜ್ ಔಟಾದನು. ನಾಯಕನ ಔಟಾದ ನಂತರ ರಂಜಿ ಬ್ಯಾಟಿಂಗ್ ಮಾಡುವ ಸರದಿ.
ಅವನು ಚೆಂಡನ್ನು ಎದುರಿಸಲು ಸಿದ್ಧನಾಗಿದ್ದನು. ಕೆಂಪು ಚೆಂಡು ಅವನ ಕಡೆಗೆ ವೇಗವಾಗಿ ಬಂದಿತು. ಚೆಂಡು ರಂಜಿಯ ಪ್ಯಾಡ್‌ಗೆ ತಗುಲಿತು. ಅಂಪೈರ್ ಬೆರಳು ಮೇಲೆತ್ತಿ ‘ಔಟ್’ ಎಂದರು. ರಂಜಿ ನಿಧಾನವಾಗಿ ಹಿಂದಕ್ಕೆ ನಡೆದನು. ಪ್ರವಾಸಿ ತಂಡವು ಪಂದ್ಯವನ್ನು ಗೆದ್ದಿತು. ಮನೆಗೆ ಹಿಂತಿರುಗುವಾಗ ಬೇಸರಗೊಂಡಾಗ, ಕ್ರೀಡಾ ಸಾಮಗ್ರಿಗಳ ಅಂಗಡಿಯ ಮಾಲೀಕ ಕುಮಾರ್ ಅವನ್ನನ್ನು ಕರೆದು, ನೀನು ಏಕೆ ದುಃಖಿತನಾಗಿದ್ದಿ ಎಂದು ಕೇಳಿದರು. ರಂಜಿ ಬ್ಯಾಟಿಂಗ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿನ ವೈಫಲ್ಯದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಹೇಳಿದನು.

ಟಾಸ್ ಗೆದ್ದ ಸೂರಜ್ ಮೊದಲು ಬ್ಯಾಟಿಂಗ್ ಮಾಡಲು ನಿರ್ಧರಿಸಿದನು. ಪ್ರವಾಸಿ ತಂಡದ ಬೌಲರ್ ಉತ್ತಮವಾಗಿ ಬೌಲಿಂಗ್ ಮಾಡಿದನು. ಒಂದೇ ಓವರ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಶಾಲಾ ತಂಡದ ಎರಡು ವಿಕೆಟ್‌ಗಳು ಉರುಳಿದವು. ಇದೀಗ ರಂಜಿ ಬ್ಯಾಟಿಂಗ್ ಸರದಿ. ಉತ್ತಮವಾಗಿ ಆಡಿದ ಅವನು 58 ರನ್ ಗಳಿಸಿದನು. ಅವರ ಶಾಲಾ ತಂಡವು ಪಂದ್ಯವನ್ನು ಗೆದ್ದಿತು. ಇತರ ಎರಡು ಪಂದ್ಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅವನು ಕ್ರಮವಾಗಿ ನಲವತ್ತೈದು ಮತ್ತು ನಲವತ್ತೈದು ರನ್ ಗಳಿಸಿದನು.

English summary of the lesson Ranji’s Wonderful Bat
Ranji’s Wonderful Bat is a short story written by Ruskin Bond. Ranji was eleven years old, a schoolboy. A cricket match was going on between two teams. Suraj was the captain of his team. His team scored fifty-three runs for four wickets. His team needed 60 more runs to win. Sooraj, the captain of the school team, is out. After the captain’s dismissal, it was Ranji’s turn to bat.
He was ready to face the ball. The red ball came swiftly towards him. The ball hit Ranji’s pads. The umpire raised his finger and said ‘out’. Ranji walked back slowly. The visiting team won the match. Feeling sad on his way back home, Kumar, the owner of sporting goods shops, called him and asked him why he looked sad. Ranji told him about his failure in batting.
Suraj consoled them for his failure and assured that he would play well in the next matches. He gave him a bat which he used to bat. He was a player of the state team and scored a century with his bat, which he gave to Ranji. Ranji was happy. The match was supposed to start on Saturday.
Ranji’s Wonderful Bat summary in English:
Sooraj won the toss and decided to bat first. The bowler of the visiting team bowled well. Two wickets of the school team fell in one over. Now it was Ranji’s turn to bat. He played well and scored 58 runs. His school team won the match.
In the other two matches he scored forty-five and forty-five runs respectively. The coach and captain of the school team and Mr. Kumar were also pleased with his batting. After winning the match, Ranji took the bus from the ground to go to his house, when he was in the room, there was no bat. He was dropped on the bus and felt very sad.
He went to Kumar’s shop and told him that he had lost his bat. Kumar consoles them not to worry about it. There were no other bats in his shop to give him, but he told her that he had the confidence to play with any bat.
Ranji’s school team was playing the last and important match of a Delhi public school team cricket season on Saturday. Saturday has arrived. The match started. His school team lost the first wicket for just two runs. It was Ranji’s turn. He borrowed Sooraj’s bat and went to the wicket. The first ball was very quick, Ranji backed down and hit a boundary very hard on him.
It was six. Everyone stood up and started cheering. He hit the ball across the ground and scored runs. Seventy-five runs. but. The match ended in a draw. It was about Ranji school. On his way back home, he bought a dozen laddoos. Six for Mr. Kumar and six for Koki.
