A Girl Called Golden is a poem written by David Bateson. Betty was a great sprinter and had won three gold medals at the 1956 Olympics games in Melbourne and one more at the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo.

A Girl Called Golden ಡೇವಿಡ್ ಬೇಟ್ಸನ್ ಬರೆದ ಕವಿತೆ. ಬೆಟ್ಟಿ ಕತ್‌ಬರ್ಟ್‌ ಉತ್ತಮ ಓಟಗಾರಳಾಗಿದ್ದಳು ಮತ್ತು 1956 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಮೆಲ್ಬೋರ್ನ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದ ಒಲಿಂಪಿಕ್ಸ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಮೂರು ಚಿನ್ನದ ಪದಕಗಳನ್ನು ಮತ್ತು 1964 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಟೋಕಿಯೊದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದ ಒಲಿಂಪಿಕ್ಸ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಚಿನ್ನದ ಪದಕವನ್ನು ಗೆದ್ದಿದ್ದಳು.
ಬೆಟ್ಟಿ ಕತ್‌ಬರ್ಟ್‌ಗೆ ಓಡುವ ಉತ್ಸಾಹವಿತ್ತು. ಮೊದಲ ಚರಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಕವಿಯು ತನ್ನ ಸಹಪಾಠಿಗಳು ನಡೆಯುವಾಗ ಏಕೆ ಓಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾಳೆ ಎಂದು ಕೇಳುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಅವಳ ಸಹಪಾಠಿಗಳು ಓಡುವಾಗ ಅವಳು ವೇಗವಾಗಿ ಓಡುತ್ತಾಳೆ. ಅವಳ ಸಹಪಾಠಿಗಳು ಆಟವಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾಗ ಅವಳು ತರಬೇತಿಗೆ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದಳು. ಬೆಟ್ಟಿ ಧೃಢವಾದ ನಿರ್ಧಾರ ಮತ್ತು ಕಠಿಣ ಕೆಲಸಗಾರ ಎಂದು ಇದು ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
ಎರಡನೆಯ ಚರಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಕವಿ ಸ್ವತಃ ಮೊದಲ ಚರಣದಿಂದ ಈ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಉತ್ತರಗಳನ್ನು ನೀಡುತ್ತಾನೆ. ತಾಜಾ ಗಾಳಿ ಮತ್ತು ಬಿಸಿಲಿನಿಂದಾಗಿ ಬೆಟ್ಟಿ ಓಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾಳೆ . ವೇಗವಾಗಿ ಓಡುವಾಗ ತಂಗಾಳಿಯಿಂದ ಅವಳ ಕೂದಲು ಕಲಕಿದವು. ಬೆಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಧೈರ್ಯವಿತ್ತು. ಆಕೆಯ ವಿಶೇಷ ಗುಣಗಳನ್ನು ಕಂಡು ತರಬೇತುದಾರ ತರಬೇತಿ ನೀಡಲು ಆಯ್ಕೆ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡನು.
ಮೂರನೆಯ ಚರಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಕವಿ ಟ್ಟಿ ಕತ್‌ಬರ್ಟ್‌ಳ ಕಠಿಣ ಪರಿಶ್ರಮ ಮತ್ತು ಯಶಸ್ಸನ್ನು ಪಡೆಯುವ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಗಳನ್ನು ವಿವರಿಸಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ಅವಳ ಸ್ನಾಯುಗಳು ನೋಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದರೂ ಅವಳು ಪ್ರಯತ್ನವನ್ನು ಬಿಡಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಅವಳು ಜನರಿಂದ ಋಣಾತ್ಮಕ ಪದಗಳನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಲಕ್ಷಿಸಿದಳು ಮತ್ತು ತನ್ನ ಗುರಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಕೇಂದ್ರೀಕರಿಸಿದಳು.

Betty Cuthbert had a passion for running. In the first stanza the poet asks why she is running while her class mates were walking. She sprints when her classmates were running. When her classmates were playing she is going to trained. This shows that Betty was determined and hard worker.
In the second stanza the poet himself gives the answers of these questions from first stanza. Betty runs because of fresh air and sunshine. She sprints because of her hair was stirred by breeze. Betty had more courage. That is the special thing to choose her coach as trainer.
In the third stanza the poet describes her hard work and efforts to get success. Though her muscles were aching her did not give up her effort. She neglected negative words from the people and only concentrated on her aim.
The time had passed and when Olympic games came, she was still in her teens and was cheered by others. In these games she won 4 gold medals. It was a glorious moment in her life. It was the time to remember the rest of the years for which she struggled for.
