ಈ ಪಠ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಲೇಖಕರು ಮಾರುಕಟ್ಟೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸರಕುಗಳನ್ನು ಖರೀದಿಸುವಾಗ ಹಣ್ಣು ಮಾರಾಟಗಾರನು ವಂಚಿಸಿದ ಮತ್ತು ಗ್ರಾಹಕರನ್ನು ಎಚ್ಚರಿಸಿದ ಘಟನೆಯನ್ನು ವಿವರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಲೇಖಕರು ಕೆಲವು ವಸ್ತುಗಳನ್ನು ಖರೀದಿಸಲು ಮಾರುಕಟ್ಟೆಗೆ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಾರೆ.

इस पाठ में लेखक ने एक घटना का वर्णन किया है जहां एक फल विक्रेता ने उसे धोखा दिया था और बाजार में सामान खरीदते समय ग्राहक को सतर्क किया था। लेखक कुछ वस्तुओं को खरीदने के लिए बाजार जाता है।
वह दुकान में लगे रंग-बिरंगे सेबों से आकर्षित हो गया था। आजकल लोग अपने स्वास्थ्य को लेकर अधिक चिंतित हैं क्योंकि पहले हमारे शरीर ने टमाटर का सेवन किया था, लेकिन अब इसकी बहुत मांग है। इसी तरह इयररोट एक गरीब का भोजन था, अब इसके स्वास्थ्य लाभों के कारण अमीर लोग गाजर के पीछे हैं। इन सभी कारकों को ध्यान में रखते हुए लेखक ने सेब फल पोषण गुणों को खरीदने का फैसला किया है।

‘Kashmiri Seb’ is a short story by Munshi Premchand. It is a story about dishonest shopkeepers. Premchand had once gone to the market to buy some daily necessities. He could not control himself on seeing the red apples on display in one of the shops. Premchand says that these days educated people have started paying attention to things like vitamins and proteins.
Earlier, no one ate tomatoes even if they were available for free; today, the tomato has become an essential part of a meal. Carrots too were poor people’s food; the well-off would only eat carrot halwa. But since it became known that the carrot is a storehouse of multivitamins, it started appearing on the dining tables.
Premchand says that the apple is considered nutritious now. So he asked for half a kilogram of apples. The fruit seller picked up his weighing scale and ordered his assistant to get half a kilogram of the best apples. The boy brought out four apples and after weighing them the fruit seller wrapped them in the paper, bundled them in Premchand’s handkerchief.
When Premchand took out an apple for breakfast, he realised there was a rotten spot. Premchand thought the fruit seller might have missed it the previous night and took out another apple. Half of this one too had gone bad. Now Premchand became suspicious. The next apple he tried had shrunk on one side. He checked the last one. It looked spotless. But it had one black hole and when Premchand cut it, it had worm-infested spots inside. Not a single apple was fit for eating.

Premchand thought that the fruit seller had cheated him deliberately. But he realised that he too was responsible for it. The fruit seller had reckoned that Premchand did not look cautious enough. Premchand says that a man is deceitful only when he is given a chance. They might cheat a little while weighing one’s purchase, but if they were even mistakenly given a ten-rupee note instead of a five-rupee note, there was no need to worry. One would get the money back.
Premchand was not expecting the vendor to return his money. But, to his surprise, he not only returned the money but also apologised. And here were vendors selling worm-infested apples and peddling them as delicious Kashmiri apples. Premchand hopes that readers will not keep their eyes shut like he did while shopping. Otherwise, they too would meet the same fate.
