The Concert ಶಾಂತ ರಾಮೇಶ್ವರ ರಾವ್ ಬರೆದ ಒಂದು ಪಾಠ. ಈ ಪಾಠದಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಮಿತಾ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆ ಓದುತ್ತಿದ್ದಳು. ಈ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಷಣ್ಮುಖಾನಂದ ಆಡಿಟೋರಿಯಂನಲ್ಲಿ ಪಂಡಿತ್ ರವಿಶಂಕರ್ ಅವರ ಸಂಗೀತ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಸುದ್ದಿಯಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಸ್ಮಿತಾ ಮತ್ತು ಆಕೆಯ ಕಿರಿಯ ಸಹೋದರ ಅನಂತ್, ಪಂಡಿತ್ ರವಿಶಂಕರ್ ಅವರ ಅಭಿಮಾನಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಅನಂತ್ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ ನಿಂದ ಬಳಲುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.
ಪಂಡಿತ್ ರವಿಶಂಕರ್ ಮರುದಿನ ಷಣ್ಮುಖಾನಂದ ಆಡಿಟೋರಿಯಂನಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಗೀತ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಕೊಡಲು ಹೊರಟಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂದು ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಕಟಣೆಯನ್ನು ಓದಿದ ಕಾರಣ ಸ್ಮಿತಾ ಉತ್ಸುಕರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಹಾಸಿಗೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಮಲಗಿದ್ದ ಸ್ಮಿತಾಳ ಸಹೋದರ ತುಂಬಾ ಅನಾರೋಗ್ಯದಿಂದ ಬಳಲುತ್ತಿದ್ದನು, ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಆಕೆಯ ತಾಯಿ ಅವಳಿಗೆ ಸುಮ್ಮನಿರುವಂತೆ ಎಚ್ಚರಿಕೆ ನೀಡಿದರು.
ಅನಂತ್ ಖಂಡಿತವಾಗಿಯೂ ಪ್ರತಿಭಾವಂತ ಹುಡುಗ. ಅವನು ಶಾಲೆಯ ಅತ್ಯುತ್ತಮ ಟೇಬಲ್ ಟೆನ್ನಿಸ್ ಆಟಗಾರ ಮತ್ತು ವೇಗದ ಓಟಗಾರನಾಗಿದ್ದನು. ಅವರು ಸಿತಾರ್ ನುಡಿಸಲು ಕಲಿಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು ಮತ್ತು ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ಸಂಯೋಜಿಸಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಯಿತು. ಅವನು ತನ್ನ ಸಹೋದರಿಗಿಂತ ಎಲ್ಲ ವಿಷಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪರಿಣಿತನಾಗಿದ್ದನು.

ಪಂಡಿತ್ ರವಿಶಂಕರ್ ತನ್ನ ಸಹೋದರನ ಪರವಾಗಿ ಸಂಗೀತ ನೀಡಲು ವಿನಂತಿಸುವುದು ಸ್ಮಿತಾಳ ಯೋಜನೆಯಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಆಕೆಯ ಯೋಜನೆಯು ಯಶಸ್ವಿಯಾಯಿತು, ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಅವರು ಅವಳ ಸಹೋದರನಿಗಾಗಿ ಸಂಗೀತ ನೀಡಲು ಒಪ್ಪಿಕೊಂಡರು. ತನ್ನ ಸಹೋದರನ ಕುರಿತಾದ ಸ್ಮಿತಾಳ ಕಥೆಯನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದ ನಂತರ, ಪಂಡಿತ್ ರವಿಶಂಕರ್ ಮತ್ತು ಉಸ್ತಾದ್ ಅಲ್ಲಾ ರಖಾ ಹುಡುಗನಿಗೆ ಸಂಗೀತ ನೀಡಲು ಭರವಸೆ ನೀಡಿದರು. ಮರುದಿನ ಅವರು ಸ್ಮಿತಾ ಮನೆಗೆ ಬಂದರು. ಅವರು ಕಿಟಕಿಯ ಪಕ್ಕದಲ್ಲಿ ದಿವಾನ್ ಮೇಲೆ ಕುಳಿತು ಹುಡುಗನಿಗೆ ಸಂಗೀತದ ಮೂಲಕ ಕೊನೆಯ ಆಶೆ ಈಡೇರಿಸಿದರು.

The Concert lesson English summary:
The Concert is a lesson written by Shanta Rameshwar Rao. In this lesson Smita was reading the newspaper. In this newspaper the news was about Pandit Ravishankar’s concert at Shanmukhananda auditorium. Smita and her younger brother Anant were the fan of Pandit Ravishankar. Anant was suffering from cancer.
Smita was excited because she read an announcement in the papers that Pandith Ravi Shankar was going to play at the Shanmukhananda Auditorium the next day. Smita’s brother who was lying on the bed was very sick, so her mother cautioned her to be quiet.
Anant was definitely a talented boy. He was the best table tennis player in the school and the fastest runner. He was learning to play sitar and was already able to compose. Anant was expert in all things than his sister.
Smita’s brother, Anant had been struck with cancer. They had come to Bombay so that he could be treated at the cancer hospital in the city. They stayed with aunt Sushila.
The doctors asked Anant’s parents to take him home and to give him whatever he liked. Anant’s condition had become worse and the parents realized that he had not many days to live.
Smita’s plan was to request Pandith Ravi Shankar to play for her brother. Her plan was successful, because they were agreed to play for her brother. After listening to Smita’s story about her brother, Pandith Ravi Shankar and Ustad Allah Rakha were promised to play for the boy. The next day they arrived at Smita’s house. They sat down on the divan by the window and played for the boy.
