ಸಾಯಿಯವರ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳ ಮೇಲಿನ ಪ್ರೀತಿ ಅವಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಬೆಳೆಯಿತು. ಪರಂಜ್‌ಪೈ ಮನೆತನದಲ್ಲಿ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳು ‘ಪೂಜ್ಯ’ ವಸ್ತುಗಳಾಗಿದ್ದವು. ಒಂದು ದಿನ, ಸಾಯಿ ಅವರು ಲೈಬ್ರರಿಗೆ ನುಗ್ಗುತ್ತಿರುವಾಗ ತಪ್ಪಾಗಿ ಪುಸ್ತಕದ ಮೇಲೆ ಹೆಜ್ಜೆ ಹಾಕಿದರು. ಅವಳ ಅಜ್ಜ ಅವಳನ್ನು ತಡೆದು ಪುಸ್ತಕವನ್ನು ಕ್ಷಮೆ ಕೇಳಲು ಕೇಳಿದರು. ಬಾಗಿ ಪುಸ್ತಕಕ್ಕೆ ನಮಸ್ಕಾರ ಮಾಡಿದಳು. ಡಾಗ್-ಇಯರ್ಡ್ ಪುಸ್ತಕವನ್ನು ಕಂಡುಹಿಡಿದಾಗ ಅದೇ ಶಿಕ್ಷೆಯನ್ನು ನೀಡಲಾಯಿತು. ಇದರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಸಾಯಿ ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳನ್ನು ಗೌರವಿಸಲು ಕಲಿತಳು.
ಸಾಯಿ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ದಪ್ಪವಾಗಿದ್ದಳು ಮತ್ತು ಅವಳ ಸಂಗಾತಿಗಳು ಅವಳನ್ನು ಗೇಲಿ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಅವಳ ಸ್ನೇಹಿತ ಚಂದು ತನ್ನ ಜೊತೆ ಓಡಿವಂತೆ ಹೇಳಿದ. ಆದರೆ ಮೀರಾ ಸಾಯಿ ಅವರನ್ನು ಬೆಂಬಲಿಸಿದರು ಮತ್ತು ನಮ್ಮ ತಂಡವನ್ನು ದುರ್ಬಲಗೊಳಿಸಲು ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಿಸಬೇಡಿ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು. ಸಾಯಿ ಎಂದಿಗೂ ತನ್ನನ್ನು ತಾನು ಕ್ರಿಯಾಶೀಲವಾಗಿರಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ದೇವಯಾನಿ ಹೇಳಿದರು. ತುಂಬಾ ದಪ್ಪಗಿದ್ದಳು. ಸಾಯಿಗೆ ಕೋಪ ಬಂತು.
ಅವಳು ತನ್ನ ಸ್ನೇಹಿತರನ್ನು ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಲು ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಿಸಿದಳು. ಕಥೆ ಕೇಳಲು ಅವರನ್ನೆಲ್ಲ ಕರೆದಳು. ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಸ್ನೇಹಿತರು ಕಥೆ ಕೇಳಲು ಅವಳನ್ನು ಸುತ್ತುವರೆದರು. ಸಾಯಿ ಅವರು ಗುಪ್ತ ನಿಧಿಯಿಂದ ತುಂಬಿರುವ ಮಾಯಾ ದ್ವೀಪದ ಕಥೆಯನ್ನು ಹೇಳಲು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಿದಳು. ಅವರು ಅದ್ಭುತ ಕಥೆಯನ್ನು ಮಾತ್ರ ಕೇಳಲಿಲ್ಲ, ಆದರೆ ಅವಳು ನಿರ್ದೇಶಿಸಿದಂತೆ ಪಾತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಮತ್ತು ನಟಿಸಲು ಸಿದ್ಧರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಇದು ಒಂದು ಅಥವಾ ಎರಡು ದಿನವಲ್ಲ, ಆದರೆ ಇಡೀ ವಾರದವರೆಗೆ ನಡೆಯಿತು.

ಒಂದು ದಿನ ಸಾಯಿ ತನ್ನ ತಾಯಿಯನ್ನು ಮೋಜು ಮಾಡಲು ಕೇಳಿದಳು. ಅಮ್ಮ ಓಕೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿ ಅವರ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮದುವೆ ಸಮಾರಂಭ ಏರ್ಪಡಿಸಿದರು. ಅಂದು ಅವಳು ಶಾಲೆಯಿಂದ ಬರುವಾಗ ಇಡೀ ಮನೆ ಮದುವೆ ಮಂಟಪದಂತೆ ಕಾಣುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಏನನ್ನೂ ಹೇಳುವ ಮುನ್ನವೇ ವಧುವಿನ ‘ತಾಯಿ’ಯಂತೆ ಕಂಗೊಳಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಳು ಸಾಯಿ.
ಬ್ಯಾಂಡ್ ಆಗಮಿಸಿತು, ವರ ನಿಜವಾದ ಕುದುರೆ ಮೇಲೆ ಸವಾರಿ ಮಾಡಿದರು! ಊರಿನ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಸಕಲ ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಪಠಣಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ‘ವಧು’ವನ್ನು ಕರೆತರಲಾಯಿತು. ಆ ದಿನದ ‘ತಾಯಿ’ ನಾಟಕದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ತುಂಬಾ ಒಲವು ಹೊಂದಿ, ಭಾರತದ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಚಲನಚಿತ್ರ ನಿರ್ಮಾಪಕರು ಮತ್ತು ರಂಗಭೂಮಿ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಬ್ಬರಾಗಿ ಬೆಳೆದರು.

Summary in English:
‘All the World Her Stage’ is a short story of Sai Paranjpye. Sai was a famous theatre personality from Pune, Maharashtra. She was also directed many television serials. She won the National Award for the best documentary with a social purpose.
Sai and her grandpa regularly go for walk. Sai was a plump little girl of about six or seven-year-old. When they go to walk they laughed, talked and had a great time.
Sai’s grandpa was a famous educationist and mathematician, Sir R.P.Paranjpye. He was India’s first senior wrangler and Sai’s grandfather. Sai called his grandpa as Appa.
As they walked, Appa put simple mathematical questions, and also related fables to her. These included fairy tales, Arabian Nights and Birbal’s Stories. Sai naturally preferred the fairy tales to mathematical problems.
One day when they go for a walk sai asked his grandpa to tell a story. But grandpa told her to tell a story today. Sai told a story. It was a fairy tale. The story was of dragons and princess, talking parrots and hidden gold.
Sai’s father was much impressed by her story. Grandpa asked her where did she read it. Sai told that she didn’t read it. She told her own story. When sge was eight years old girl she published her first book of fairy tales, called ‘Mulancha Mera.’
Sai’s love for books grew with her. Books were ‘revered’ objects in the Paranjpye household. One day, Sai stepped on a book by mistake as she rushed into the library. Her grandpa stopped her and asked her to ask forgiveness of the book. She bent and did namaskar to the book. The same punishment was given when he discovered any dog-eared book. With this, Sai learnt to respect feelings about books early in life.
Sai was a bit plump and her mates used to make fun of her. Her friend Chandu asked her to run with him. But Meera supported Sai and said don’t try to make our team weak. Devayani said Sai never can keep herself active. She was too fat. Sai became angry.
She tried to manage her friends. She called them all to listen a story. All friends surrounded her to listen a story. Sai started to tell a story of magic island full of hidden treasure. They not only listened to the fantastic story, but were also ready to take roles and act as she directed. This went on, not for a day or two, but for the whole week.
Sai was always fascinated by many things. One of them was doll’s wedding. This is a traditional game played by Maharashtrian girls. Children conduct ‘marriage’ of a bride doll and a groom doll. Mantras are chanted. Gud [jaggery] and Poha [beaten rice] are shared.
One day Sai asked her mother to have fun. Mother said ok and arranged a wedding ceremony in her house. On that day, when she came back from school, the whole house looked like a marriage hall. Before she could say anything, she was dressed like a bride’s ‘mother’.
The band arrived, the groom rode on a real steed! All the children of the locality took part. The ‘bride’ was brought with all religious chantings. The ‘mother’ that day, so fond of drama, grew up to become one of India’s leading filmmakers and theatre personalities.
