‘A Great Martyr Ever Cherished’ 1999 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾರ್ಗಿಲ್ ಯುದ್ಧದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೋರಾಡುವಾಗ ಪ್ರಾಣ ಕಳೆದುಕೊಂಡ ಹನೀಫ್ ಉದ್ದೀನ್ ಎಂಬ ಯುವ ಸೈನಿಕನ ಕುರಿತಾದ ಪಾಠವಾಗಿದೆ. ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ತಾಯ್ನಾಡಿನ ಸೇವೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹುತಾತ್ಮರಾದಾಗ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಕೇವಲ 25 ವರ್ಷ. ಅವರ ಶೌರ್ಯವನ್ನು ಗುರುತಿಸಿ, ಕಾರ್ಗಿಲ್‌ನ ಟರ್ತಕ್ ವಲಯಕ್ಕೆ ಅವರ ಹೆಸರನ್ನು ಇಡಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಆ ನಂತರ ವಲಯವನ್ನು ಹನೀಫ್ ಉಪ ವಲಯ ಎಂದು ಹೆಸರಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.
ಹನೀಫ್‌ಗೆ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭದ ಜೀವನ ಸುಗಮವಾಗಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಅವನು ಕೇವಲ ಎಂಟು ವರ್ಷದವನಾಗಿದ್ದಾಗ ತನ್ನ ತಂದೆಯನ್ನು ಕಳೆದುಕೊಂಡನು ಮತ್ತು ಅವನ ತಾಯಿಯು ಕೆಲಸಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋದಾಗಲೆಲ್ಲಾ ಸ್ವತಂತ್ರವಾಗಿರಲು ಕಲಿತನು. ಅಂತರ್ಮುಖಿಯಾದರೂ ಹನೀಫ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತಿಭೆಗೆ ಕೊರತೆ ಇರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಅವರು 14 ವರ್ಷದ ನಂತರ ಸ್ನೇಹ ಬೆಳೆಸಲು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಿದರು.

‘A Great Martyr Ever Cherished’ is a lesson about a young soldier called Haneef Uddin who lost his life while fighting the Kargil war in 1999. He was only 25 when he became a martyr serving his motherland. In recognition of his heroism, the Turtuk sector in Kargil is named after him. After that sector is named as Sub-sector Haneef.
Life for Haneef in the beginning was never a smooth sail. He lost his father when he was only eight, and learned to be independent whenever his mother was away on work. Although an introvert, there was no dearth of talent in Haneef. He started to make friendship after the age of 14.
He sketched, made cards with waste material and played drums. His musical talent was used in the army also when the soldiers asked him to get all his musical instruments and formed a troupe which was later called ‘Haneef 7’. It shows that Haneef was a multi-talented young soldier.
Haneef’s two brothers turned out to be a teacher and a music composer, but Haneef joined the army honouring his instinct to serve his motherland. Right from his childhood, Haneef knew what he wanted to do – it was to serve his motherland. He knows that life for him was short. He wished to lead ekdam binds life.
Then Haneef selected to military. Unfortunately, India lost a young soldier who would have continued to do a lot of good for the country because helping others was in his nature. Haneef sacrificed his life in Kargil war at the age of 25. Because of this Turtak sub-sector was renamed as Haneef Sub sector. Haneef, as a young officer, had marvelled at the idea of Nanasing post being named after a soldier.
Government of India decided to offer Petrol Pump. As a fitting tribute to his helping and selfless nature, his mother refused to accept a petrol bunk the government offered her as compensation saying there were other poorer soldiers who might need it more.
