‘The Discovery’ ಪಾಠದ ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಾರಾಂಶ:
‘The Discovery’ ಹರ್ಮನ್ ಔಲ್ಡ್ ಬರೆದ ನಾಟಕ. ಈ ನಾಟಕವು ಕ್ರಿಸ್ಟೋಫರ್ ಕೊಲಂಬಸ್ ಅವರ ನೈಜ ಸಮುದ್ರಯಾನವನ್ನು ಆಧರಿಸಿದೆ.
ಕ್ರಿಸ್ಟೋಫರ್ ಕೊಲಂಬಸ್ ಮೊದಲ ಬಾರಿಗೆ 1492 ರ ಅಕ್ಟೋಬರ್ 11 ರ ರಾತ್ರಿ ಹೊಸ ಪ್ರಪಂಚದ ಬೆಳಕನ್ನು ಕಂಡರು. ಅವರು ಈ ಮಹಾನ್ ಸಾಧನೆಯನ್ನು ಸಾಧಿಸುವ ಮೊದಲು, ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಸಿಬ್ಬಂದಿಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಆಗಾಗ್ಗೆ ಬಹಿರಂಗವಾಗಿ ಪ್ರತಿಭಟನೆ ನಡೆಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಇದನ್ನು ಆಧರಿಸಿ, ನಾಟಕವು ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ ಕಲ್ಪನೆಯ ಸಂಘರ್ಷವನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
ನಾವಿಕರು ಹಾಡನ್ನು ಹಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಕೊಲಂಬಸ್ ಈ ಹಾಡನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದಾಗಲೆಲ್ಲ, ಅವನು ಕೋಪಗೊಂಡನು. ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಹಾಡನ್ನು ನಿಲ್ಲಿಸಲು ಪೆಡ್ರೊಗೆ ಆದೇಶಿಸಿದರು. ಡಿಯಾಗೋ ಕೋಪಗೊಂಡನು ಮತ್ತು ನಾವು ಸಂತೋಷ ಮತ್ತು ವಿಶ್ರಾಂತಿಗಾಗಿ ಹಾಡುತ್ತೇವೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು.
ಆಗ ಪೆಡ್ರೊ ಚಂದ್ರನನ್ನು ಸ್ವಾಗತಿಸಲು ಬಂದನು. ಆದರೆ ಡಿಯಾಗೋ ಕೆಟ್ಟದಾಗಿ ಭಾವಿಸಿದರು ಮತ್ತು ಡಾನ್ ಪೆಡ್ರೊ ಹೇಳಿದರು, ನಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲವರು ಸ್ಪೇನ್ ಕರಾವಳಿಯನ್ನು ಇನ್ನೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಸ್ವಾಗತಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಅವರು ತಾಳ್ಮೆ ಕಳೆದುಕೊಂಡರು. ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ತಾಳ್ಮೆಗೂ ಮಿತಿಗಳಿವೆ ಸಾರ್ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು.

‘The Discovery is a play written by Herman Ould. This play is based on Christopher Columbus’s the real voyage.
Christopher Columbus first saw the light of the New World on the night of 11th October, 1492. Before he could achieve this great feat, he was often at open defiance with his crew. Based on this, the play builds up a conflict of great imagination.
The seamen were singing a song. Whenever Columbus heard this song, he was furious. He ordered Pedro to stop their song. Diego became angry and told that we sing for pleasure and relaxation.
Then Pedro came to welcome the moon. But Diego felt bad and said Don Pedro, some of us would welcome the coast of Spain still more. He was impatient. So told that there are limits to patience, sir.
Pedro told Diego that I hope we are not entertaining mutinous thoughts. By these words …………..
