Quality of Mercy ಕವನವು ‘Merchant of Venice’ ನಾಟಕದಿಂದ ತೆಗೆದ ಸಾರವಾಗಿದೆ. ಈ ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಪೋರ್ಷಿಯಾ ಕರುಣೆ ಏಕೆ ಎಲ್ಲಕ್ಕಿಂತ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಗುಣ ಎಂದು ವಾದಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಈ ನಾಟಕವನ್ನು ವಿಲಿಯಂ ಶೇಕ್ಸ್‌ಪಿಯರ್ ಬರೆದಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
ಚರಣ 1:
ದಯಾ ಗುಣವನ್ನು ಬಲದಿಂದ ಸುರಿಸಲಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಅದು ಸ್ವರ್ಗದಿಂದ ಭೂಮಿಗೆ ಸೌಮ್ಯ ಮಳೆಯಂತೆ ಸುರಿಯುತ್ತದೆ. ಕರುಣೆ ನೀಡಿದಾಗಲೆಲ್ಲಾ ಅದು ಮರಳಿ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದು ಎರಡು ಬಾರಿ ಆಶೀರ್ವಾದ ಎಂದು ಅರ್ಥ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಇದನ್ನು ಎರಡು ಬಾರಿ ಆಶೀರ್ವದಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಈ ಗುಣವು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಪ್ರಬಲವಾಗಿದೆ.
ಚರಣ 2:
ಕವಿ ರಾಜನ ಶಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ತಾತ್ಕಾಲಿಕ ಶಕ್ತಿಗೆ ಹೋಲಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಸಿಂಹಾಸನಾರೂ ಢನಾದ ರಾಜನು ತನ್ನ ಕಿರೀಟಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಉತ್ತಮ. ಅವನ ರಾಜದಂಡವು ಲೌಕಿಕ ಶಕ್ತಿಯ ಶಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಶಕ್ತಿಯು ಜನರಲ್ಲಿ ಭಯವನ್ನು ತರುತ್ತದೆ. ಆದರೆ ಈ ಶಕ್ತಿ ತಾತ್ಕಾಲಿಕ ಮಾತ್ರ. ಆದರೆ ಕರುಣೆ ಈ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಶಕ್ತಿಗಿಂತಲೂ ಮಿಗಿಲಾದದ್ದು.
ಚರಣ 3:
ಆದರೆ ರಾಜನು ಅವರ ಹೃದಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಕರುಣೆಯನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದರೆ, ಅವನು ಸ್ವತಃ ದೇವರಾಗುತ್ತಾನೆ. ರಾಜನು ಕರುಣೆಯನ್ನು ತೋರಿಸಿದಾಗ ಅವನ ತಾತ್ಕಾಲಿಕ ಶಕ್ತಿಯು ದೈವಿಕ ಶಕ್ತಿಯಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಆಗ ರಾಜನನ್ನು ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಪ್ರೀತಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಕವಿಯ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಕರುಣೆ ದೈವಿಕ ಗುಣ ಮತ್ತು ಎಲ್ಲಕ್ಕಿಂತ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಗುಣ.
Quality of Mercy Summary in English:
Quality of Mercy is the extract taken from the play ‘Merchant of Venice.’ In this play Portia argues why mercy is the greatest virtue of all. This play is written by William Shakespeare.
Stanza 1:
The quality of mercy is not showered by force. It showered like a gentle rain from the heaven to the earth. Whenever mercy is given, it comes back. It means it is twice blessing. So it blessess by two times. This quality is strongest of strongest.
Stanza 2:
The poet compares power of King to the temporal power. The throned monarch is better than his crown. His scepter shows the force of worldly power. This power brings fear in the people. But this power is temporary only. But mercy is above this temporal power.
Stanza 3:
But the king had mercy in their heart, he becomes God himself. When the king shows mercy his temporal power becomes divine power. Then only the king was loved by all. According to the poet mercy is the divine quality and greatest virtue of all.
