1) Article ‘a’ is used before a word beginning with consonant letters/sounds like c, s, t etc.
Example: a car, a flower, a saint, a trick.
2) Article ‘an’ is used before a word beginning with a vowel sound. Some consonant letters also give vowel sounds.

3) Article ‘the’ is used before an already mentioned noun and with common names which are unique.
