Describing Words REMEMBER

• Adjectives are words that give more information about a noun or pronoun and can go in different positions in a sentence.

• Sizes, colours, shapes, and qualities are all examples of adjectives.

REMEMBER:

We can make adjectives from nouns by:

1. By adding ‘−y’ at the end of a noun. e.g., ice – icy His icy hands could not be touched.

2. By adding ‘-ly’ at the end of a noun. e.g., Friend – friendly My friend Peter is friendly with everyone.

3. By adding ‘-ful’ at the end of a noun. e.g., Beauty – beautiful The garden looks very beautiful.

Activity 10.1:

Complete the web with words that describe the noun.

Read the passage given below and underline the describing words given. One is done for you.

Suddenly, the king happened to see a beautiful and soft-skinned female deer. The king liked this animal and began chasing her. He pulled an arrow from his quiver to shoot her. He aimed at her and shot the arrow. But before the arrow could reach the female deer, a male deer came in between. The arrow hit the male and it fell dead. Then, the female deer was sitting by the side of the male deer with tears in her eyes. The king was surprised to see how the male deer had saved the female deer. When he came near the dead deer, he realised that the female deer was pregnant.
