What Is an Interrogative Sentence?

An interrogative sentence is basically another word for a question. Every interrogative sentence ends with a question mark and asks some kind of direct question.

Here are some examples of interrogative sentences:

What is your name?

Who is your uncle?

Are you going to function?

Types of interrogative sentence:

There are three different types of direct questions. An interrogative sentence can ask any of these three types of questions:

1. Yes/no questions

2.“Wh” questions

3. Question tag

1. Yes/No Questions:

Some questions have answers that take the form of “yes” or “no.” Essentially, these questions ask whether a statement is true or false.

Examples of yes/no questions:

1. Is it your school?

2. Do you want coffee?

3. Have you gone to Mysore?

4. Did they offer cashback?

2.“Wh” questions:

Some questions begin with a question word. Question words are who, what, when, where, why and how. The answer takes the form of a declarative sentence.

Examples of “question word” sentences:

1. Why are you warring about future?

2. Where is he going today?

3. What are you doing?

4. How is your office?

3. Question tag:

Tag questions (or question tags) turn a statement into a question. They are often used for checking information that we think we know is true.

Tag questions are made using an auxiliary verb (for example: be or have) and a subject pronoun (for example: I, you, she). Negative question tags are usually contracted: It’s warm today, isn’t it (not ‘is it not’)

Examples of question tag sentences:

1. It was hot yesterday, wasn’t it?

2. She went to college last night, didn’t she?

3. She doesn’t have any children, does she?

4. He can help, can’t he?
