What is homophone?

Homophone is a word that is pronounced the same but differs in meaning and a homophone may differ in spelling. The two words may be spelled the same.

In the first sentence son and in the second sentence sun have the same pronunciation but have the different meaning and different spelling. So these words are called as homophone or homophones.
