Answer the following questions in 2-3 sentences each.

1) Swami’s father drew his attention to a report in the newspaper. What was the report about?

Ans: The report was about a boy who while returning home fought with a tiger. He stayed half a day on the tree till some people came and killed the tiger.

2) Why did swami feel that his father’s proposition was frightful?

Ans: Because he always slept beside his granny in the passage, and any change in this arrangement kept him awake all the night.

3) Why were congratulations showered on Swami the next day?

Ans: Because he had caught the notorious house breaker of the district and helped the police. So congratulations showered on Swami.

4) Why did father want Swami to sleep alone in the office room?

Ans: Because he wanted Swami to leave sleeping beside his granny like a baby, to develop good habit and to prove his courage.

Ans: As the night advanced and everything became quite. Swami’s heart began to beat faster. He remembered all the stories of devils and ghosts he had heard. He was filled with fear.

12) There was absolute silence in the room. In spite of it, some noises reached Swami’s ears. What were they?

Ans: ln silence in the office room Swami heard some noises: the tickling off the clock, rustling of trees, snoring sound and some night insects humming.

13) Do you think Swami really wanted to join the police? lf not, what did he want to be?

Ans: Swami did not want to join the police. He wanted to be an engine driver, a railway guard, or a bus conductor later in life.

14) How were Swami’s opinion different than his father’s view on courage?

Ans: Swami had different opinion than his father. Swami thought that age and strength of man is very important. His father believed that courage is important.

15) What desperate attempts did Swami make to escape from his father?

Ans:  Swami tried to change the subject by telling about the cricket club, requested to sleep in the office room from the first of next month. He went silently and pretended like sleeping beside his granny. He told that there were scorpions behind the law books in the office room.
